VSProwess is seismic processing software designed for the special requirements of borehole seismic data acquisition (i.e. Vertical Seismic Profile (VSP) and related methods).
Capacity
The limit on the maximum number of multiple-component traces managed by a single PDB is currently fixed at 100 million. This is an arbitrary limit and may increase in future. In practice however because most operators require to be able to hold at least two PDBs in memory, the maximum number of traces is effectively determined by the computer's available RAM. Each PDB entry requires 512 bytes per trace. VSProwess "traces" may have multiple components. A single PDB entry can manage all of the X, Y and Z signal components. We presently equip our own workstations with 64Gb RAM but have found this amount to be sufficient for up to 40 million 3-component traces per PDB.
Introduction
The essence of a signal processing system such as VSProwess is the means by which the user is able to construct, modify and execute a route (a processing sequence) from the available operators. An operator performs some processing operation upon an input dataset, transforming it into an output dataset. VSProwess provides a very flexible flowchart type interface. Using simple point and click actions, the user can insert operators into a worksheet, link these operators together in a logically consistent manner to make the processing route, execute them and display the results.
