SubPUMP aids in the design of electric submersible pump equipment by creating optimum performance for current well conditions or analyzing the performance of an existing ESP System. Pump analysis is typically performed by a production engineer. Wellbore configuration, fluid analysis, and inflow performance are used as a basis of a SubPUMP analysis.

The engineer executes SubPUMP with the required information and picks whether the program is to solve for either the total fluid rate, pump intake pressure or pump setting depth. By supplying the information for two of the three parameters, SubPUMP calculates the missing parameter. Once the producing system has been completely designed, the pump selection system is used to find all or certain manufacturer's pumps that will meet the design criteria of the producing system.

A pump is then selected from the pump selection list, and the number of the pump stages are then calculated for a given frequency. A warning message is given if the number of stages needed to obtain the designed head is more than the maximum number of stages permitted by the pump manufacturer for a single housing. A motor is then selected from a list of motors that will operate the pump. You have the option of accounting for motor slip. A cable dialog allows you to select a cable and calculate a downhole voltage or verify a surface voltage for operating the motor. Sensitivity analysis allows you to make changes to the base case and create up to four additional cases for comparison.
